These are some of the most common environmental questions we receive. Please note that some issues fall outside of our regulatory authority, but we have included helpful resources and referrals below.
Do you handle code enforcement issues on private property?
No. Concerns such as junk, tall grass, or property maintenance on private property are handled by Code Enforcement, not the health department.
Can I get my water tested through WEDCO?
Yes, if your home is connected to a private well or cistern.
No, if you are on city or municipal water. We do not provide sampling for public water systems.
Does the health department test for or remove mold?
No, we do not provide mold inspections or remediation. For more information, visit
Does the health department test for lead?
No, we do not provide lead testing. We do have helpful resources if you suspect lead in your surroundings.

What programs do you not regulate?
Environmental Services
Food Program
Our Food Program oversees the inspection and regulation of food establishments, provides food safety education, and enforces state and federal food codes.
Certified inspectors conduct routine inspections and work closely with businesses to ensure compliance with the Kentucky Food Code and FDA Food Code 2013.
Food Scores
We conduct routine inspections of local restaurants, grocery stores, and other food service establishments to ensure safe and sanitary conditions. You can view food scores online.
Animal Bites & Rabies
Nuisance Complaint
Nuisance complaints must be made in person at the local health department during the Environmental Office hours Monday-Friday 8:00am-9:30am. The Record of Complaint and Investigation form must be completed.
Private Water Samples
Private water is not regulated by the EPA, so it is up to the owner to make sure they are using safe drinking water from a private source. For more information: Private Drinking Water Wells | US EPA
Preparedness
Swimming Pools
Public swimming and bathing facilities to help ensure safe and sanitary conditions for all users. Environmental health staff conduct annual, follow-up, and routine monitoring inspections.
Hotel & Motels
Hotels and motels are inspected once per year. If the hotel or motel has a swimming pool then the swimming pool is inspected 2 times a year. Please contact the local health department for any complaints regarding a hotel or motel.
