The WIC Program (Women, Infants, and Children) provides healthy foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and referrals to health and social services for eligible families. WIC is designed to help pregnant women, new mothers, infants, and children under age five get the vital nutrition they need for healthy growth and development. By supporting families during these important stages of life, WIC helps build a strong foundation for lifelong health and wellness.
You can participate in WIC if you are a Kentucky resident and one of the following:
– Pregnant, or
– Breastfeeding, or
– Postpartum, or
– A child 5 years old or younger.
A person who participates or has family members participate in certain other benefit programs, such as SNAP, Medicaid, or TANF, automatically meets the income eligibility requirement.
To be eligible, you must have an annual household income (before taxes) that is below the amounts shown in the chart below. You may also take the prescreening tool to see if you are eligible.
Pregnancy and early motherhood come with a lot of questions—especially when it comes to breastfeeding. That’s why WIC offers Peer Counselors: trained moms from your community who have breastfed their own babies and understand what you’re going through.
These counselors provide one-on-one breastfeeding support and encouragement, offering real-life tips and guidance to help you succeed, including:
– How to breastfeed comfortably—at home or in public
– Returning to work or school while continuing to breastfeed
– Getting support from your family and loved ones
– Starting off strong with breastfeeding
– Increasing and maintaining your milk supply
– Addressing common breastfeeding concerns
